These small yet super popular islands sit in front of Kaivopuisto district, Helsinki. Book your ferry ride onto the islands and enjoy the Finnish Summer.
Uunisaari island is a popular recreational island for Helsinkians, as it is close and easy to reach. Every winter a makeshift bridge to the island is being assembled, but in the Summer the only way to reach the island is by ferry. And it is definitely worth it, as there is a lovely beach facing the open sea, and a cozy restaurant serves all visitors. The Summer ferry leaves from Merisatamantori square at Kaivopuisto, from April to November, and the ride takes only a few minutes.
There's a walkway via a breakwater from Uunisaari to the neighboring Liuskasaari island, and further to Liuskaluoto, a tiny rock skerry, which hosts one of the beloved restaurants in all of Helsinki, Skiffer. Nowadays a chain serving rectangular pizzas, also known as "Liuskas", Skiffer was started here in 2009. Skiffer also hosts a sauna, whose location is definitely among the most memorable in Helsinki. There's also a direct ferry from Kaivopuisto to Liuskaluoto.
